Colposcopy
Did your Pap test come back abnormal? It is important to follow up, and to check yourself!
A colposcopy is a test for us to get a close-up look at your cervix. It’s a safe and quick procedure that can spot cell changes in the cervix that can indicate cancer.
What is a colposcopy?
A colposcopy is a painless exam that uses a microscope-like device to check for any possible cancerous cells. During the colposcopy, if necessary, a biopsy will be taken from the cervix.
The test is painless, quick, and can be performed immediately.

We will examine the cervix using a microscope. This preliminary examination can help us diagnose certain changes in the cervix.
- Biopsy if necessary
A biopsy can be slightly uncomfortable, and is performed without localized anesthetics, however it will allow for an accurate and efficient diagnosis of any possible cervical changes.
- Results of exam
At the end of your exam, you will receive information about the doctor's examination of the condition of the cervix. If a biopsy has been taken, it will be sent to a lab, and the results will be given after the sample has been observed. The doctor will then be able to give an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan.
